World Car of The Year Awards Finalists Announced

Bridgestone Corporation’s Geneva Auto Show press conference brought to our attention the top three finalists for the World Car of the Year, World Performance Car, World Green Car and World Car Design of the Year.

The best three contenders for the overall 2010 World Car of the Year have gone through a rigorous selection process, as they have been chosen from a list of thirty worldwide new vehicles and then from a list of ten candidates. The cars that made it to the final are the Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse, the Toyota Prius and the Volkswagen Polo.

The best three supercars fighting for the 2010 World Performance Car award are the Audi R8 V10, the Ferrari California and the Porsche 911 GT3.

Three experts pre-selected the candidates for the World Green Car of the Year. The vehicles chose were then voted by the evaluation team, who chose the Honda Insight, the Toyota Prius and the Volkswagen BlueMotion range (the Golf, the Passat and the Polo).

The vehicles that compete for the World Car Design of the Year award were selected from the list of World Car candidates and pre-evaluated by an international panel consisting of five design experts. The pre-evaluation served as a starting point for the jury. The three finalists are the Chevrolet Camaro, the Citroen C3 Picasso and the Kia Soul.

The team that evaluates the candidates is formed by fifty-nine prominent automotive journalists from twenty-five countries. The winners of the 2010 World Car of the Year award will be presented on Thursday, April 1, during the New York International Auto Show.
