While may rely on Google Maps and Waze for their navigation needs when activating CarPlay in their cars, there are so many other similar apps that are worth a look in the App Store.
And one of them is none other than the already-famous TomTom GO Navigation, an application that has recently received a massive update to substantially refine the experience on CarPlay.

What’s important to know from the very beginning is that TomTom GO Navigation comes to iPhone and CarPlay users with a free license, so you can install it at no cost, but on the other hand, it includes in-app purchases to unlock the full feature lineup. You’ll have to pay a subscription to use it, and you can choose between three different plans after running the app.

Version 2.2 brings additional improvements to this experience when it’s powered by CarPlay, including POI information. However, worth mentioning is that POIs are displayed when you’re using CarPlay with a configured route on the screen, with the new information now highlighted on the map as you drive.

Then, this new update includes current speed information on CarPlay, a highly-requested feature that should have been there from the very beginning. As you probably know already, a speedometer is already available in Waze and in Google Maps for some lucky users (for some reason, this feature is yet to go live for everyone in Google Maps), so TomTom GO Navigation getting it is quite an important step in becoming a rival to Google’s navigation apps.

TomTom’s app now comes with unified results, so search results are no longer displayed separately. This means it’s easier to find a destination, and obviously, this is good news especially when you’re in a hurry.

Of course, the new update also introduces additional bug fixes and improvements which the parent company did not disclose, but overall, you should feel the app run smoother on both the iPhone and CarPlay.
