Webber Dedicates Spanish Podium to Father in Hospital

Mark Webber could not fully enjoy his podium finish in Barcelona, as the celebration wouldn't have been proper given the medical situation of his father Alan. As confirmed by the Red Bull Racing drivers, his father is still in the hospital following his falling ill on his way to the Chinese Grand Prix last month.

Dad's a bit iffy at the moment but we have our fingers crossed for him,” said the Australian driver after clinching his 2nd podium of the season.

Alan Webber has often been seen around son Mark in the F1 paddock, but his medical situation is currently preventing him from joining the Red Bull garage these days. It is yet unknown when he will be released from hospital and continue to go racing with his son.

In the meantime, as good news can only help him get better, Webber did his part of the bargain and scored an impressive 3rd place at Circuit de Catalonia, which provided him with a 2-place boost in the drivers' classification. Thanks to his 3rd place in Barcelona, Webber is now 4th overall in the standings, only 7.5 points behind teammate Sebastian Vettel.

Talking about his performance in the Spanish Grand Prix, Webber insisted the constant podiums are only the results of his team's change in mentality and believes there is still more to come from Red Bull this season.

It's good to be back on the podium. It's interesting how the team's mentality has changed - last year we would have been happy to score points and now we want podiums at every race!” said the Australian driver.

I expect Monaco will be closer than this, but the way the car performed here, on circuit that is a tough test on a car, is a good sign for places like Turkey and Silverstone,” added Webber.
