Webber Argues Vettel Rivalry Pushed Red Bull Forward

Mark Webber is a driver who knows how to lose, and he proved that once again during Red Bull's homecoming press conference in Austria yesterday. While many were expecting some hard feelings towards teammate Sebastian Vettel, against whom he experienced a bitter rivalry this season, the 34-year old Australian told the media that it was in fact this state of events that pushed Red Bull to a season to remember in 2010.

The Austrian organization, based in Milton Keynes (UK), took both world title this season, constructors and drivers, and Webber believes the tough relationship between him and Vettel, echoed heavily in the media especially after the Turkish Grand Prix in which the two collided while fighting for the win, was a positive thing for Red Bull.

It's normal, when we have such an important thing at stake, that there are going to be times when it will be on the edge. And that's part of the journey - that's sport, that's what happens. You have these micro-battles which happen,” said Webber, according to Autosport.

Additionally, Webber also had to tackle intense media suggestions, which were based on pretty obvious reactions from the Red Bull garage, that the Austrian team is clearly favoring Vettel for the world title.

Of course the media can make it a lot bigger on Monday or Tuesday compared to what it was, and that's something which we can't control. But in the end it's something that drove the team forward, maybe it fueled the whole thing forward.

Of course we lost some points with some of the rivalry getting too close, but in the end I think the team has collectively worked incredibly hard together, Sebastian and I have good respect for each other, and that's the important thing - that you can still, at the end of all of that, shake hands, after the battles that we did all around the world.

It's not just us two on the track, people have to realise that, because there are different people trying to p*** on our fire as well, so we've got to think of the team as well,” concluded Webber in his well-known blunt style.
