What do you do when traffic is really busy? Well, nothing, but wait. In the worst case scenario you call your boss and once again hear him saying you should’ve left earlier. But then again, the rain outside is not such a big problem as you cruise the highway with 10mph since everything remains cosy inside your new car. But all of the sudden an emu appears.
Beep, beep!

We sure do remember Looney Tunes’ Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner cartoon characters, but things are slightly different this time. Instead of a fast-running ground bird, we’re looking at a full-size emu which is definitely not chased by any coyote. In fact, as far as we can tell the wild animal was enjoying its little voyage on the highway. As were the drivers who slowed down and started filming the odd appearance.

It turns out the bizarre clip was filmed in the Israeli city of Herzliya and posted by YouTube user Iliya Zelser. The fellow was driving along the highway when he saw all the cars slowing down and eventually stopping because of the large bird.

You can hear the man laughing almost all the time he’s filming which we totally get, especially that, at some point, the giant bird completely ignored a red light and continued running, missing on-coming traffic with just a couple of inches.

Since we find this bird hilarious we took the time to search the species up and we found that they can grow up to 1.9 m tall (6.2 ft) in height and are able to travel great distances at a fast, economical trot. If it’s necessary, these beautiful feathered runners are able to sprint at 31 mph (50 km/h), as their long legs allow them to take strides of up to 275 cm (9.02 ft).

Now, getting back to the clip in question, we simply can’t make up our minds on what is funnier, the fact that the emu is soaking wet as it’s carelessly running around the street or that the guy filming the animal is listening to Kansas’ big hit “Dust in the Wind”.

After all, compared to nature, aren’t we all just dust in the wind...
