Watch a Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG Park Itself

A brand new A 45 AMG will set any potential Mercedes-Benz owner back at least €50,000 in Germany. That sounds like a lot to pay for what's essentially a compact, the smallest Merc you can buy and at the same time the least luxurious. However, while the baby AMG is small, it's by no means a Honda Civic. Basically everything you could possibly want can be optioned, including a system that parks the car for you.
This next clip is the first one we know off where the A45 AMG is asked to do the tricky task of parallel parking all on its own. The system is called Parktronic with Active Parking Assist and it basically uses the sensors to guide itself. If you're driving slow enough, sensors on the sides of the bumpers scan the area. If a space large enough for the A45 appears, a "P>" symbol appears on your dash.

After that, you put the car in reverse and press "OK" from the left steering wheel toggle to engage the system, which still requires that you use the acceleration and brake pedals.

Now, this system isn't exclusive to the A 45 AMG. You can have it with the regular A-Class and in fact all the other members of the MLB family. However, seeing it being used by the hyper hot hatch is a rare treat.

The official configurator for Germany states that Park Assist is a €803,25 optional extra on the A 45 AMG. Most drivers will rarely use it and it costs about as much as a decent bumper respray, so we'll let you guys decide if it's worth having it.
