25 years ago, racing legend Walter Rohl assaulted Pikes Peaks in the Audi Sport quattro you see above and set a record that still stands today. Now the racing driver is preparing to return to the famous hill climb, at the wheel of the original Sport quattro S1.
Rohl set a time of 10 minutes and 48 seconds in the Race to the Clouds back then and on July 8 the driver will be back in the seat of the 600 hp machine. However, this will not be a race, but a demo run.
We have to explain that Rohl’s record no longer represents the fastest time, but all the better times that were recorded subsequently were set on the paved course, not on the dirt road he used. The paving process has now been completed, so Rohl will be able to offer us a different experience.
