Vote the Cars to Make It to the Smithsonian

The Smithsonian is one of the best-known museums in the world, with the buildings of the institution housing perhaps the greatest display of human ingenuity and history. As it should, a special section of the Smithsonian handles automobiles and its history.

Due to the limitations of space, however, the museum has no chance of ever displaying the entire inventory for the public to see. This is why a rotation system is applied from time to time. Even rarer, the museum organizes public queries, asking the audience which artifact or object to get the honor of being displayed.

Currently, the Smithsonian is organizing the so-called Race to the Museum campaign, aimed at taking out of the closet and placing under the spotlight two of the most iconic cars of the past century and beyond.

The institution is asking you to choose between eight items. The cars and bikes subject to the public voting are a long steam tricycle (1880), a Balzer (1894), an Oldsmobile curved-dash runabout (1903), a Miller race car (1929), a Tucker sedan (1948), a Glasspar sports car (1953), a GM Sunraycer solar car (1987) and an EV1 electric car (1997).

The voting on the items to be displayed is in progress, with the voting to close on January 11. For those interested in what models are leading the race, we'll tell you that the Tucker and the Miller are currently in the lead for a spot in the museum.

More information about the voting and details about the items can be found at the following link.
