Volvo Winner Takes Home New S60 R-Design

Following the national competition whereby browsers who had signed up to receive news from Volvo UK were invited to enter the prize draw to win a car, Jon Carter took delivery of a new S60 D3 R-Design. The lucky winner picked up his new car from Volvo Cars Bishop’s Stortford, one of the newest in the Volvo network.

“Winning this car means so much to us it’s quite overwhelming. It has provided me and my family with one of the safest vehicles on the road and after my accident, safety is something I am much more conscious of and we would never have had the means to fund such an amazing car,“ Carter said while collecting his new car from the dealership.

Carter has sustained a a serious road accident ten years ago, when, as a back seat passenger, the car in which he was travelling skidded on black ice and fog before hitting a roundabout. The accident left him unable to walk for a year. He will use the new car as he develops his business as an eco-product distributor.

The S60 incorporates Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake, designed for higher speeds, warning drivers if they're about to hit another vehicle, applying the brakes automatically if necessary. The vehicle also includes City Safety developed to avoid low speed accidents and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

The 2012 version of the S60 R-Design comes with a 25 hp power increase as well as a 29 lb-ft (40 Nm) of torque boost out of their inline six-cylinder T6 turbocharged engine. The power will increase from 300 hp to 325 hp and from 325 pound-feet (441 Nm) of torque to 354 pound-feet (480 Nm).
