Volvo's Mean Green Hybrid Truck Sets Land Speed Record

This rather strange-looking truck is Volvo’s ‘Mean Green’ hybrid truck. It was built specifically to showcase Volvo’s hybrid know-how and to prove that it could also help improve performance significantly while also improving economy as it attempted to go 260 km/h(165mph).
On April 27th, an effort was made to reach the 260 km/h(165mph) it was intended to reach, on the surface of the salt flats near Bonneville, in Utah. The 2100-hp truck didn’t quite get there with an average speed of 236.577 km/h (147.02 mph) through the Flying Kilometer (2/3 mile) and ran 153.252 km/h (95.24 mph) from a standstill over the same distance.

Despite not having reached its intended speed, the truck still broke two records during its runs, and since the whole action was overseen by the FIA, the records will have to wait 30 to 60 days for validation.
