Volkswagen has recently announced that it will debut an action that will see it introduce a misfueling protection system on over 250,000 diesel vehicles in North America, aiming to help drivers avoid putting petrol into their tanks.
This is a service campaign that includes 209,500 vehicles in the US, as well as 51,600 cars in Canada, covering the 2009-20017 Jetta, the 2009-2012 Jetta Sportwagen (Golf Wagon in Canada), as well as the 2010-2012 Golf.
The company’s dealers will fit the customer cars with a misfueling guard and a fuel filler neck cap free of charge. The move comes after the Natioan lHighway Traffic Safety Administration investigated multiple diesel VW models due to receiving dozens of complaints about engine stalling.
The aforementioned complaints were linked to failed fuel pumps, with VW explaining that 90 percent of the vehicles has large quantities of of petrol in their tanks. As for the VW vehicles from the 2013 model year onwards, there have fuel fillers that only allow diesel nozzles.
