Europeans have recently got the opportunity to experience the crossover version of the VW Passat, the Alltrack and now VW is willing to see what Americans think of this and thus will bring the vehicle to the New York Auto Show in order to see the public’s reaction.
Basically, we are talking about the facelifted incarnation of the Euro-spec Passat Estate, a totally different car from the US-spec Passat. This comes with a beefier ride height, metallic underbody protections, as well as exterior plastic add-on elements that protect the bodywork when the car leaves the road.
While the crossover concept fits the US market like a glove, the estate body and the TDI diesel engine are elements that are usually loved by the American public, so we really don’t know that the reaction to this will be. However, if this will be a positive one, VW could develop a version adapted for the US market - we'll remind you that back in November last year, when the Alltrack was introduced, VW said that this wouldn't be offered in the US due to the fact that it is based on the European version of the Passat.
