Volkswagen Mid-Size SUV for the US Rendered

The US is where the SUV phenomenon started and so any carmaker that wants to take full advantage of this segment has to cater to the needs of American consumers. VW is well aware of this and the company is currently working full throttle to develop a mid-sized SUV for the US market.

The vehicle will be similar in terms of dimensions with the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes GLK and will be slotted between the compact Tiguan and the full-size Touareg. At the moment, there is a $20,000 price gap between the two aforementioned models and VW wants to fill this by creating a new model.

The company hasn’t made an official announcement yet, but multiple sources indicate that the upcoming model could be built at the carmaker’s Chattanooga facility. However, Volkswagen of America CEO Jonathan Browning said earlier this year that the plant could have its production capacity boosted from the current 150,000 to 250,000 cars per year.

Until VW decides to let us know what its exact plans for the new SUV are, we’ve decided to bring you a rendering that should give you an idea of how this will look like.
