It is now time to find out how the Volkswagen Golf VII scored in the Euro NCAP crash tests. The benchmark of the compact segment received five stars, with a 94 percent rating for adult occupant protection, 89 percent for child occupant protection, 65 percent for pedestrian protection and 71 percent for the safety assist.
In the front impact test, the Golf offered good protection for all areas of both occupants, with the exception of the driver’s lower leg, which was adequate. The side impact test revealed a good protection for all the areas of the occupants’ bodies. In terms of the protection offered for the more severe side pole impact, the protection for the chest was marginal. Both the seat and the headrest provided good protection against whiplash injuries that could result from a rear-end accident.
The seventh incarnation of the Golf scored maximum points for child protection, for all age classes and impact types. In addition to that, the vehicle comes with clear labeling for airbag disabling.
When it comes to pedestrian protection, the Golf’s bumper received maximum points for leg protection, but the front edge of the bonnet only offers marginal protection. As for the areas likely to be hit by an adult’s head, protection was poor or marginal, while in the case of a child this was good.
