The automotive world’s niches are expanding further and further and automotive producers want to take full advantage of this, with the latest example in the field being the VW Cross Coupe Concept.
The vehicle was introduced last year at the Tokyo Motor Show and now the carmaker is returning with a new version for the Geneva Motor Show 2012. The concept has received a new powertrain, which promises to offer an incredible efficiency.
The VW Cross Coupe TDI Plug-In Concept uses a turbodiesel direct injection (TDI) powerplant, as well as two electric unit, with the combined output sitting at 306 hp. The vehicle can reach a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph), while returning an efficiency of 1.8 liters per 100 km (130 US mpg ot 156 UK mpg). As for its CO2 emissions, these are also extremely impressive, sitting at 46 grams per km.
