Back in January, several media reported that Petrov had promised around 15 million euros to the Enstone organization, in exchange for a full-time drive in 2010. Consequently, he was confirmed by Renault F1 a couple of weekends ago.
However, according to Russian online publication yesterday, Petrov's father seems to be late in paying the French manufacturer the first installment for his son, as he allegedly has difficulties in coming up with the money via a bank loan.
“Following recent speculation in F1-related media about the situation between the Renault F1 Team and Vitaly Petrov, the driver's management denies all rumours, which were due to a misunderstanding in an interview with the driver's father,” said a recent statement from Petrov's management.
“We would like to confirm that the Renault F1 Team and Vitaly Petrov's management have reached full agreement and have signed a binding contract for 2010. Vitaly will drive for the team in all 19 grand prix in this year's FIA Formula One World Championship. At present, both team and driver are preparing for the next official test session, which is due to take place from February 10 to 13 on the Jerez circuit. No further comment will be made,” added the statement.
As confirmed by Renault earlier this week, Petrov is scheduled to take the R30 to the Jerez track during the first 2 days of action - Wednesday and Thursday - after which he'll hand the car to Robert Kubica for the last 2 days of the meeting.
