Virgin Racing Announce F1 Car Ready by February Testing

After confirming their second race driver for the 2010 Formula One championship, in the person of Brazilian racer Lucas di Grassi, Virgin Racing also confirmed the fact that their 2010 challenger is on schedule to be tested in February, probably after the January group launch in Valencia...

Earlier this month, we'd reported to you that all the Formula One teams agreed to do a joint launch of their 2010 cars at Valencia, in order to cut costs before the official start of the season. However, several concerns were raised as to whether all the F1 outfits in the paddock would actually make it to that deadline.

Those concerns were based on two facts. First, the last off-season say several teams launch their 2009 cars later than initially projected (Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Force India, Brawn GP) due to a multitude of reasons. Second, there are no less than 4 new teams coming into the sport in 2010 and developing a Formula One car is something that none have experienced until now (so being late on deadlines might occur).

As far as Virgin Racing are concerned, the team benefits from development work from Wirth Research (owned by the team's technical director Nick Wirth), and announced it will have their car ready to be tested by the month of February (the first official test of the winter season in F1). That means the last details on it will probably be available for the Valencia launch, in late January.

Our group of companies has involvement in many areas both inside and outside motorsport and our philosophy of technology transfer will continue to benefit all of our existing and future clients,” said Wirth, during the team's official launch on Tuesday.

The fact that our Formula 1 project is fully on schedule speaks volumes for the motivation and capabilities of our entire workforce. We are all looking forward to seeing the car break cover for the first time on track in February,” added the team's technical chief.
