Vettel Admits NASCAR Puts On Greater Show than F1

Sure, Formula One racing is nothing like NASCAR – and obviously the other way around – but the undeniable fact about these two racing series is that the latter has plenty of thing to teach the former in terms of show and appreciation towards the fans. And it's not us saying it, but the majority of the F1 drivers and officials who get to watch a NASCAR race live and remain impressed afterwards.

The latest was none other than “baby Schumacher” Sebastian Vettel, the vice-champion of the 2009 Formula One Championship. As he was invited at the Sprint Cup's season finale in Homestead-Miami by sponsor Red Bull, the German driver admitted he was impressed with how the people in North America promote their races.

Even if many argue that the racing – at its basics – is not very interesting, the fact that more than 100,000 fans show up weekend in and weekend out to watch their favorite drivers race like crazy on the North American ovals is proof enough that the promoters are doing their job well enough to teach F1 a lesson.

Some things will always be different, because Formula 1 is just not NASCAR and NASCAR is not Formula 1, but in America they're very good at how to put the show on and put the focus on the sport, the drivers. It's always a huge crowd, always packed and I think this is something we can learn in Europe, to make it more interesting for that many people,” said Vettel, according to Autosport.

Vettel is not the only driver calling for more show inside the Formula One championship, as Lewis Hamilton earlier this year called for more celebration from winning drivers after the finish line. In addition, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone insisted plenty of times that all the F1 races should be available in HD, while also calling for more driver-to-fan rules & policies in the future.

Prior to the upcoming season, the FOTA (Formula One Teams Association) is to meet with the rights holder of the F1 championship and the promoters to discuss new ways of making the sport more attractive for the fans.
