Vespa's iconic 946 scooter was unveiled in New York with all the hype required by an exclusive piece of modern machinery. The place chosen for the event was a Bvlgari flagship store on NY's 5th Avenue, in the presence of Piaggio CEO and President Roberto Colaninno.
The forst 3600 946 units form the “Ricordo Italiano Collection” and they will be available in Montebianco (white) or Nero Lucido (black).
More a fashion statement than a popular commuter, the Vespa 946 still brings a monocoque aluminium body housing an 125cc engine with traction control transmission, and ABS. The price is an equally exclusive subject, as the 946 comes with a $9,946 (€7,208) price tag which is not exactly the best definition for "a popular scooter."
Nevertheless, it appears that Vespa is faring quite well, as Coloninno mentioned sales increasing 21.3% over the first 3 quarters of 2012. The same source added that Vespa will be releasing Primavera, a new scooter at next month's EICMA in Milan, Italy.
