The Association of Global Automakers have announced their support for a free trade deal between the United States and the European Union that could phase out or even eliminate the 2.5 percent tariff on car imported in the US.
The trade group that’s representing the major Asian automakers as well as luxury vehicle manufacturers claims that the proposed agreement “can promote economic growth, increase jobs and enhance the global competitiveness of U.S. and European producers — both in general and within the automotive sector in particular — through regulatory convergence, mutual recognition, the elimination of tariffs and other facilitation measures.”

In addition, Jaguar Land Rover North America and Ferrari North America, two of the free trade deal’s fervent supporters, have asked the US Trade Representative’s office to eliminate the current import tariff immediately.

Moreover, Jaguar Land Rover has also urged the US and the European Union to harmonize safety regulations and vehicle emission standards.
