Unique Wooden Talbot for Sale at Brooklands

Classic car enthusiasts that also have a nautical passion will definitely show interest in this unique 1932 Talbot that has a body made entirely of wood. This unique 1932 Talbot 14/65 Boat Tail Tourer began its life as a saloon car almost 80 years ago, when it rolled out of the Clement Talbot facility in West London.

Some 30 years later, a boat builder was commissioned to design and craft a new body with a nautical twist to it. Constructed from 3” x 1/4” planks of finest Honduran mahogany, the new body was built entirely by hand. After the overall shape of the “hull” was created, the bonnet and doors were cut out.

The interior of this one-off is done in black leather with period art deco styling to give a classic feel. The car features a removable wooden hatch, similar to that on a boat, beneath which there is a small bench seat for two extra passengers.

Power for this historic model comes from a small 1,670 cc engine. In keeping with true classic British sportscar tradition, comfort is kept to a bare minimum: two small rectangular aeroscreens, a tonneau and a pair of 9 inch diameter Marchal headlamps. So if the weather is a bit chilly, you should pack a padded leather jacket.

Brooklands’ historians estimate the car is worth a very affordable £20,000 to £30,000 ($32,00 to $58,000) According to traditional boat-builders Henwood & Dean, that is comparable to the cost of re-creating just the wooden bodyshell alone in cost. The model can be previewed on Friday December 3rd, while bidding will take place on the next day.
