Unichip Europe today announced the introduction of a Uni-Q piggy back ECU for the Range Rover 3.0-liter TDV6 turbocharged diesel model, offering a decent power and torque increase for the British SUV.
The Unichip Uni-Q piggy back ECU intercepts the signals from the Range Rover’s factory vehicle sensors and channels them through its ECU, remapping the engine’s fueling and turbo boost for superior performance.
“Unlike an OBD ‘flash’ remap the Uni-Q leaves no electronic footprint. It is ‘invisible’ to Land Rover / Range Rover main dealers and cannot be detected or overwritten during servicing. To ensure it is totally tamperproof, the Unichip can only be remapped by one of Unichip Europe’s 35 UK dealers. If, at a future stage, owners add mechanical modifications, the Uni-Q can be remapped to suit, or at a later stage, the unit can be removed from the vehicle and sold on, unlike an OBD reflash,” stated the press release, explaining the advantages of the system.
The 2,993cc twin-turbo diesel mill gains 22 bhp, offering a total of 281 bhp at 3,031 rpm. As for the peak torque, this has been increased from 502 to 525 lb-ft at 2,241 rpm, which means that the vehicle comes with improved low speed performance for towing, caravanning, off-road performance and overtaking. The figures were verified through a set of dyno tests.
The tuner brags that the extra muscle doesn’t affect the vehicle’s 30 UK mpg fuel efficiency, claiming that it has perfected multiple test to make sure it offers an efficient package.
