The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has announced that the total vehicle production output, in the UK, has gone up by 4.9% in November, while engine production went down by a small margin - 1.4%. The year-to-date numbers are also pretty good, with a 9.2% increase in car production, and a 0.3% decrease for engine production.
According to Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive, “UK car manufacturing has gone from strength to strength in 2012, growing almost 10% for the year and 5% in November [ . . . ] The global appeal of UK-built products is a key factor in the strength of our manufacturing sector, supported by world leading productivity and a dedicated and flexible workforce. This is good news, but there can be no room for complacency; the development of a long-term industrial strategy and consistent support by government is essential to secure future success and more opportunities for the UK-based supply chain."

The UK seems to be bucking the trend present throughout the rest of Europe, as they have maintained a steady production output, while sales have not gone down at all, in recent months, with November being a particularly good month, with a total increase of 11.3%.
