If you're looking for the automotive reenactments of the David vs. Goliath battle, the Nurburgring is the place to check out. The overly technical nature of the Green Hell means that underdogs always stand a fair chance of running with the big boys. Case in point with the Ring chase we've brought along for today, which involves a Mazda Miata and a pair of supercars.
The Miata driver, who, much to nobody's surprise, is the one who brought the tale to Youtube, seemed the be cruising along when the a Porsche 911 GT3 RS and a Ferrari 488 came flying by - the man was actually limited by the short gearing of the machine.
Nevertheless, the aficionado set on a quest to play with the speed devils. And by the time the dominant twisty side of the Nordschleife allowed him to catch up, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS was on the tail of the Prancing Horse.
In his first-generation Miata, which had received a few mods, turbocharger included, the man did his best to keep up with the beasts ahead of him, delivering a delicious chase that awaits you in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page.
Fortunately, this afficionado seems to use a realistic approach, as noticeable in his description of the stunt.
"Of course the Porsche or the Ferrari and although everyone seams to have a 'Ring story about that time that he was faster than that guy in a GT3 RS please if they try tell it to you, just...slap them in the face! It is a given that the owner of 200,000 Euro Porsche might not be willing to take the risks the owner of a 5,000 Euro shitbox would. And although in most cases we are keen to quickly dismiss the supercar owner as a rich guy that can't drive there is a good chance he doesn't even know that...there is a race!" the gearhead explains.
Alas, it seems that the little Mazda decided to give up at a certain point, as you'll see in the video.
