If you were in the market for a panel van, you might be interested to know that from now on, all Citroen vans (Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay) will come with Trafficmaster Smartnav as standard. The system is basically the same as regular sat-nav, but it works with real time data, allowing you to avoid congestion and various other road blockages, and thus save fuel and also contribute to lessening the load on congested stretches of road.
Despite the system not being a requirement on all new vehicles by 2015, Citroen have decided to fit it as standard to all the vans in their range (60,000 of them, thus far). It is a very useful system, and another feature on available for Smartnav-equipped vans is the E-Call function which uses both satellite and voice communication to allow the driver to call for help in case of an emergency, regardless of where he is.

The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and it’s engaged by touching the SOS icon on the Smartnav screen. According to the director of Trafficmaster, “Very often when an incident occurs on a motorway or trunk road, the driver doesn’t know their precise location - at best it might be between two junctions. With any other system this could add vital minutes to emergency teams arriving at the scene. But, with the Trafficmaster system automatically transmitting this information, we can remove any confusion about the driver’s location and get help to them in the fastest time possible.”
