Toyota Yaris Could Be Anything You Imagine ...

... just not a jet fighter or a bobsleigh. Or, at least, that's what we understand from the new Toyota Yaris ad campaign which seems to be poking fun at the small size of the car but also secretly praising its versatility.

Since it's done in a funny way, one that is not afraid to use self irony, we're going to let this slide, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't check these videos out for yourself. The idea behind these creations is that the Toyota isn't yet defined, that will only happen after you, the buyer, actually purchase the vehicle. Or, in other words, the car molds to your needs.

The first one is really a Top Gun-escque kinda of video, which uses the same dramatic principles. Sure, they could have used a better soundtrack (and that goes double for the second video), maybe a catchy tune, in which case, this campaign might have had enough potential to become a classic, one that would have spawned many Internet virals.

The Yaris actually doesn't show up until the very and that's only to make a splash (literally!) accompanied by the very graphic sound of a car falling into water. We didn't get the guy near the car right at the end of the video who does a quick “jump for joy”, or better said, we didn't get his role in the video.

The second video sees the Yaris trying its luck on a bobsleigh track and it's actually even funnier. By the time the guys got in the car (notice how the guys in the back tuck their heads in for increased aerodynamics just like in a real bobsleigh), we were really expecting the Yaris to actually complete the whole course, with all its twists and turns, loops, but wouldn't you know it, the little car gets stuck right before turn one. Still funny.

The slogan of the campaign is “All of Toyota's big ideas in one small car” and it's sure to be a winner. We like it.
