Toyota is considering expanding pickup truck production capacity at its San Antonio plant as US dealers are asking the Japanese automaker to supply them with more Tundra and Tacoma trucks.
The manufacturer can produce up to 250,000 Tundras and Tacomas combined in San Antonio, Texas, while running two shifts plus overtime and Saturdays, but Toyota says US dealers “are telling us they could sell more”.

“We are evaluating our footprint and capacity,” said Toyota general manager Bill Fay, adding the San Antonio assembly line could be tweaked to deliver about 7,000 more trucks. Production of the Tacoma could be increased in Tijuana, Mexico as well, but many of those trucks will go to Mexico and Canada, Fay noted.

Toyota has sold nearly 250,000 Tundra and Tacoma trucks combined through November, a 14 percent increase from 2015.
