The not-so-cleverly disguised hoax that was the Toyota RND Concept was officially revealed today. It's not a new sportscar, but a pledge to support one of the coolest humanitarian causes in the world – Red Nose Day, where the lives of kids with tough illnesses is made a little bit better... by clowning around.
The UK division has pledged to drum up a million British pounds in support of the Comic Relief program in the UK and Africa. To do that, the company will sell the "official 2015 red noses for vehicles, available exclusively from Toyota Centres and Toyota’s official eBay store."
As you can see from the photos, the noses are made from plastic and will fit over pretty much any kind of car badge, not just a Toyota's. They're pretty cool and at £5 a piece, helping a good cause seems rather affordable.
Matt Harrison, President and Managing Director Toyota GB, said: “Red Nose Day achieves the remarkable feat of making people laugh while at the same time helping make a real difference for those people most in need. Toyota is proud to be a part of its inspirational work as an official partner of this year’s Red Nose Day and across the country we will be pulling out all the stops to raise as much money as we can."
The Japanese company has its sights set on the full million, which would require them to sell no less than 200,000 red noses. That's a lot, so they've called on the support of over 10,000 people from all Toyota UK businesses, including the manufacturing, service and even online stores.
“Contributing to a better society and bringing a smile to our customers’ faces are all part of Toyota’s global vision, commitments that we believe fit perfectly with Comic Relief’s mission to give constructive help to those most in need," the company president went on to say.
Maybe you own a Rolls-Royce and would never be caught dead in a Toyota showroom. That's not a problem, since the red schnozzles can even be bought online. For more details on where exactly you can buy a car nose, check out the press release below. Every cent goes into the program, so don't hesitate and live out your clown car fantasies.
