Toyota’s recall saga seems to never come to an end, with the carmaker now announcing a new massive campaign, this time for the Prius. The Japanese automaker is calling back 242,000 units of the third-generation Prius and Lexus HS 250h due to a potential braking failure.
A part in the hybrid model’s brake pedal pressure accumulator is suspected of posing a risk of failure. This includes a metal plunger that keeps brake fluid inside a metallic housing.

This plunger uses metallic bellows that seal nitrogen between its body and the housing. The nitrogen can leak and contaminate the brake fluid, which means that the brake pedal travel could increase. Thus, the driver will be required to use more force in order to stop the car.

A warning light on the dash will appear if this happens and Toyota advises customers who encounter this problem to stop driving their cars. So far, the company has received 93 reports liked to this problem. However, the company isn’t aware of any crashes related to the issue.

Toyota’s dealers will replace the part at no charge, with the campaign set to debut worlwide in the following weeks. If you live in the US, you can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or Lexus at 1-800-255-3987.
