The Japanese automaker recently presented the pricing and specifications of the all-new Land Cruiser (dubbed 250) at home in Japan, and there were some surprises, including two special editions instead of one like the one in America and a raft of custom parts and accessories.
Let us face it. Toyota, which has been slow to adopt the EV revolution, seems right about its reluctance to throw in the billions on a rapidly evolving and unprepared technology suite. After all, its sales don't lie.

During the first quarter, it was the second-largest automaker in America and a whisker away from GM's crown. Now, there are also the results for the European division, and after the first three months of the year, TME (Toyota Motor Europe) outpaced the overall market with a 10% increase year-over-year as EVs and gasoline/diesel sales crumble, but hybrids rise.

At home in Japan, meanwhile, Toyota is less preoccupied with sales and more interested in icons – specifically the 2024 Land Cruiser. Dubbed Land Cruiser 250 because the Rising Sun market also has Land Cruiser 300 and Land Cruiser 70 options, the latest mid-size off-road SUV launched with both gasoline and diesel options plus a much lower asking price compared to America.

Caveats apply, though, as North America gets the flagship i-Force Max powertrain as opposed to the JDM versions. On the other hand, Toyota will send their local Land Cruiser 250 into dealerships with two special editions (8,000 units in total) instead of one like in the US, and the SUV is even available through the Kinto car subscription service – that way, people can have the car plus all the related costs (insurance, taxes, maintenance, and more) covered through a fixed monthly fee.

Most likely, US customers won't be envious of all that. However, the situation might change when looking at the custom parts and accessories provided by the JAOS, Toy-Factory, and Modellista brands as dealer-installed options. These include both exterior and interior options in addition to Toyota genuine parts, by the way. For example, a front bumper skid plate with integrated LEDs, a stainless-steel underbody plate, wide fender extensions, and black side steps from tuner JAOS. The icing on the cake is the set of 18-inch JAOS Tribe Cross alloy wheels sold in black or gold, which can be mixed with black or red mudguards.

Toy-Factory offers the go-camping accessory for (quick) overlanding adventures – an exclusive double-bet kit (there's another one available for Land Cruiser 70, too) can be deployed above the cargo area and folded second-row seats via cushions and a wooden frame. Last but not least, there are lots of parts and accessories from Toyota itself along with a potentially extreme Modellista transformation – front and rear bumper add-ons, extra LEDs below the headlights make it unmistakable, and the profile also gets a ton of extensions and accessories along with a shiny new set of 20-inch alloy wheels.
