The Toyota GT 86/Scion FR-S got very popular thanks to its approach to pure driving, quickly becoming a favorite among tuners. However, regular customers are a bit downed due to the sportscar’s lack of power...
If for some reason 200 hp feel a bit flaccid for you to have fun, you may have to wait a bit before buying a GT 86/FR-S, as rumors tell that Toyota is experimenting with some performance tweaks in order to boost its power output.

According to Tatsuya Tada, engineers have been experimented with multiple possibilities, including a hybrid system, forced induction and larger displacement. However, Toyota wants this affordable sportscar to remain pure so forced induction and hybrids are out of the question.

The remaining possibility may be a bigger displacement. It’s cheap and it won’t change the handling characteristics of the vehicle. Drilling the cylinders from 2.0 up to 2.5-liters could result in an increase of about 50 hp, which may be enough for the GT 86’s purpose.
