Toyota GT 86 Hood Dampers Will Excite Your Engineering Side

When Toyota designed the GT 86 sportscar it had one big thing in its mind - give you as much fun possible for a moderate amount of cash. This means it had to take some shortcuts around building it, like the plasticky interior, the aspirated 2-liter four-cylinder everybody considers underpowered and other things like the hood using a classic metal rod to keep it up when you work the engine bay.
Regarding the last part with the hood, most people will go over this without problems, but there might be some guys out there liking to hear that “schoosss” sound while the hood lifts itself up using pneumatic dampers. Luckily, these things can be mounted as aftermarket parts and Supergrid offers a decent one that will satisfy your OCD. They’re constructed to fit the original hood with no modifications needed. The kit comes with two quality dampers and all the other fitment brackets.

All you need to do is grab a set of spanners and follow the included printed instructions. Opening and closing the hood now will be child’s play and the guy here in the video will show you his happy engineer side, mostly because the hood won’t accidentally fall over his head when changing the oil or spark plugs.
