The Indian and South American markets seem to have a lot in common, as a number of cars are making the cross-continental journey. Most cars that are journeying from Brazil to India or the other way around usually offer no thrills and are compact and flexible.
Th latest such car is the Etios, Toyota’s compact car developed specifically for (and in) India which is now going on sale in Brazil both as a five-door hatchback and a sedan.
Both versions come with either a 1.3-liter or a 1.5-liter normally aspirated engine and manual gearboxes. The 1.3L will do 84 hp on petrol and 90 hp on ethanol, a popular fuel in Brazil. Meanwhile, the 1.5-liter Etios makes 92 hp on petrol and 96 hp while running on ethanol.
All models will be produced locally at Toyota’s Brazilian factory in Sorocaba. Prices start at BRL 29,990 ($14,800 or €11,400) for the hatchback and BRL 36,190 ($17,900 or €13,700) for the sedan.
