Toyota wants to spread its motorsport implications by starting to race again in the Worlds Rally Championship and the company is now working at a new rally-ready Yaris model.
According to a report from Autocar’s sister publication Motorsport News, Toyota is building a Yaris WRC prototype in Cologne, Germany, that will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine as the current rules are. The new vehicle is expected to begin testing next year.

“This will be a pretty low-key programme, run in order for us to gain experience of the car,” a company spokesman told Motorsport News.

Currently, Toyota offers an entry-level Yaris R1 at €22,500 for anyone who wants to experience the thrills of the competition. The vehicle qualifies to compete on regional, national and international competitions the way up to World Rally Championship events.
