You’d think the first and only application of the newly formed partnership between Toyota and BMW would be a diesel hybrid powertrain, but the market demand something else and soon. The brand new Camry was just released onto the Australian market and already, Toyota Australia has stated it would love some BMW diesel engines, according to caradvice.com.au.
The only diesels the Big T has on sale right now in Australia are the bigger off-roaders, the Prado and Land Cruiser, as well as pickups like the HiLux.

Under the new deal between Toyota and BMW, the Germans will get hybrid tech, while their Japanese counterpart will be provided with the much needed diesels. The smaller 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter turbo units will provide an extra boost in the competitive European market. The engine likely to be fitted to the Carmy is the 2.0-liter from the new 1-Series.
