Toyota Aims to Build All-US Bound Vehicles Locally

Toyota is one of the Japanese manufacturers (very) present on the US market, whose vehicles account for a very large chunk of the 'mundane' car sales of the country. They are well-known for their hybrids, the Corolla, the Camry and the RAV4, to name but a few.
These cars are so successful, in fact, that Toyota decided a long time ago that it would build them locally, to save on import duties, as well as other associated costs. Now, in 2013, they make around 70% of all cars sold in the US locally, and according to the Vice President and General Manager of the American branch of Toyota, Bill Fay, they want to go all the way.

Our intention is clearly to grow that 70% over time…Short term, we are not going to build everything in North America, especially (when) you consider Lexus, which we are shifting more slowly [ . . . ] Whether we ever totally get there, I don’t know," said Fay.

However, some customers have shown concern over the build quality of the US-made cars, which has been criticised for not being on-par with that of Japanese-made cars - squeaks and rattles have been reported, and they are problems which not so long ago would not have been associated with any of the Japanese marques' offerings.
