Their struggles to get on the show apparently paid off. For one of them, at least. After doing laps in a Kia cee'd, one thing became obvious: the Top Gun hasn't lost his edge. Why? Because, as you've already read in the title of this piece, Tom Cruise beat Diaz, beat Rupert Grint and became the fastest star on Top Gear wheels.
Diaz managed to finish her lap in 1:45.2, sending cold chills down Cruise's back. Fortunately for him, and despite going on two wheels for couple of seconds there, Cruise crossed the finish line in... (drums)... 1:44.2, exactly one second faster than his Knight and Day partner.
So, in the end, the Top Gear appearance was not in vain. For Cruise, who is said to be very keen on doing his own stunts (for the latest movie at least), going from four to two wheels was not scary, but somewhat of a challenge.
“This is the best day. This was like a vacation. When I was on two wheels I thought, 'I don't know what's going to happen... If I go through on the side does the time still count?” Cruise said.
Separately, the two actors were made honorary members of the Tour de France on Friday and were presented with their own yellow jerseys by Alberto Contador.
