We knew that Audi was working on such a car, but now VW, so when we spotted the Cross Coupe Concept on the floor of the Tokyo Motor Show, we were really surprised. The German automaker says this concept "hints at how a crossover between a four-door coupé and an SUV could look like," and they never make a concept just for the sake of it.
The car is shorter than the Tiguan compact SUV, but has a longer wheelbase, so it’s actually focused on the off-roading side with short overhangs. And VW boats it can take on 24.2 degree slopes and 32,5 degree angles of departure.

The hybrid drivetrain consists of a TSI engine and a 54 hp electric motor at the front, plus another one at the back with 11 hp. Combined output is 265 horsepower, which is about as much as the most powerful 2.0 turbo.

The advanced drivetrain can switch the front motor to a generator that powers the rear one.
