A new video showing the latest catch villains in South Africa are employing seems to be going viral. In it, a white BMW M135i is seen parked next to a black BMW E70 X5 and a couple of people dressed in police uniforms are trying to kidnap the owner/driver of the SUV. The action happened in Pretoria on Thursday and it was recorded by an innocent bystander that noticed something was wrong.
Indeed, at the beginning of the video, the person filming is rightfully wondering why the Chinese driver and its passenger are resisting arrest, thinking that the people coming out of the M135i are actual policemen. However, soon after, they realized things are not as they seem.

A first clue would be the fact that they come from an unmarked car. If that wasn’t enough, they are using excessive force to get the (presumably) tourists out of their car.

The real Police cleared things up

While filming, the Chinese woman involved in this ordeal starts running towards the person filming that, in the meantime, has a friend call the real police to let them know something’s not right.

In an official statement from police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller for local publication Rekord East, the authorities confirmed that this was indeed an assault done by four to five men at around 8:00 AM yesterday.

The thing that probably saved them was the fact that they put up a fight and didn’t cooperate, probably sensing that something was wrong. Luckily, the assailants got scared and left empty handed.

The police also claims that the car used in this kidnapping attempt was abandoned later that day together with the equipment used such as the police issue bulletproof vests, reflector jackets, a blue light and two R5 rifles. Unfortunately, the offenders are still at large.

According to the locals, such incidents are getting more and more common, with the perpetrators actually buying the uniforms and guns from policemen that want to make some extra money but the officials denied to make any comment on such claims so far.
