Three Wins for Volvo at Michelin Challenge Bibendum

Judging by the number of automakers that have announced various wins at this year's Michelin Challenge Bibendum, one would think that were no actual losers. And, probably, there weren't as this year's display of models has been perhaps one of the most comprehensive in ages.

For Volvo, one of the car makers that is striving to become a leader in green mobility, the Bibendum proved to be a worthy challenge, one that landed it two podium finishes, with two of its future models, as well as a design award.

The winning cars taken by Volvo to the competition were the Volvo C30 Electric, which took the first place in its category, and the V50 DRIVe, which snatched the third position in the fuel efficiency category. The V60 Plug-in hybrid received the Challenge Bibendum 2011 Design Contest award for vehicles with internal combustion engines.

"We are very happy with the results. They reflect Volvo Car Corporation's uncompromising attitude to green motoring. Performing well both in the energy efficiency rallies and in acceleration and handling tests prove that we have the ability to combine environmental technology with a full luxury car experience," said Peter Mertens, senior vice president Research and Development at Volvo.

Separately, among the other big winners of the Bibendum challenge, Renault's Fluence ZE managed to set itself apart from all the rest by winning a total of six prizes, including the win for electric cars, 1st place in the maneuverability test on the ADAC circuit and a design award for vehicle having the best integrated recharging solution.
