It’s true that decades-long ownerships are rare in the glamorous world of multi-million-dollar superyachts, where a shinier, bigger toy is always just around the corner. Still, this gorgeous American-made pleasure craft seems to have bad luck despite its undeniable qualities. It has changed ownership several times in eight years, and the most recent one didn’t last more than two years. Hopefully, the striking Chasseur will have better luck with this new change of hands.
It’s hard to imagine anyone getting bored with this stunning superyacht after just two years of cruising in lavish locations. Often, the owner is ready to move on to the bigger option in line and feels that their current pleasure craft no longer suits their needs. Luckily, what might be too small or too old for an owner can always become just the right option for another owner – timing has a lot to do with it.

Even so, it took a $3 million price cut at the beginning of this year to finally convince a yachting lover to snatch the beautiful Chasseur off the market. The final asking price was just below $30 million ($29.7 million). The same yacht had been sold at the beginning of 2021 for almost $31 million, so there was no big price gap between the two sales.

It makes sense, considering that Chasseur is not only a spectacular Christensen yacht but also one that was recently refitted. Launched in 2016, Chasseur was refitted in 2020 and again in 2022. Superyachts are typically not refitted so often and so early after their debut, but things are different for the chartered ones that need to keep up with the latest standards and trends to stay attractive to customers.

This 164-footer (49 meters) with a French name (translated as “Hunter”) was famously owned by the telecommunications mogul Donald Burns. Soon after its launch, it was one of the fancy luxury toys showing off at the infamous St Barth New Year’s Eve celebration.

Built on the American shipyard’s acclaimed Odessa superyacht platform, Chasseur quickly grabbed attention with its striking, metallic grey hull and was awarded the Judges' Special Award for Achievement at the highly prestigious World Superyacht Awards.

Designed to accommodate up to 13 guests in six sumptuous staterooms, this 2016 Christensen flaunted all the amenities of a millionaire’s floating palace, including a jacuzzi, a helipad, a fully-equipped gym, and a wine cellar (all of which also happen to be coveted charter yacht amenities).

Already a winner, Chasseur became even more glamorous during the two refits when the famous designer Patrick Knowles refreshed its Zen-inspired interiors with luxurious features and custom-designed furniture.

While its last owner let it go after only two years, Chasseur is now in someone else’s hands just in time for the summer season. Most likely, it will also continue its successful charter activity and hopefully be better appreciated this time.
