With just one week left until the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen has published the first photos and production details of the seventh-generation Golf GTI.
For the first time in its history, the Golf GTI will be offered in two versions, meaning a 220 HP regular and a 230 HP Performance variant. Both will be powered by turbocharged 2.0-liter engines and will have a peak torque of 258 lb-ft.

The difference between the two is even smaller when it comes to other performance figures, such as 0 to 62 mph sprints, 6.4 seconds for Performance and 6.5 seconds for the regular, or top speed, 155 mph vs. 153 mph in favor of the Performance GTI. We're not at all impressed, but Volkswagen must have something up its sleeve.

After taking a look at fuel economy, we can tell you that the cars have a fuel consumption of 39.2 mpg (6 liters / 100 km) with the standard 6-speed manual gearbox and 36.75 mpg (6.4 liters / 100 km) if the engine is mounted to the optional dual clutch 6-speed automatic. CO2 emissions range between 139 g/km and 150 g/km depending on gearbox choice.

Volkswagen will start taking orders for the 2013 Golf GTI in early March in Germany, and May for Europe. Prices are starting from EUR28,350.

You can find more information about the car in the company's press release.
