Last year we were showing you the completely unflattering sound of the new Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 engine and were were quite a bit dissappointed, especially when comparing it with the last ever V8 engine built by the German F1 team.
Apparently, our fears of how the new blender turbocharged V6 hybrid is going to sound were pretty much unfounded, and the following short video is a good proof in that regard.

Internally codenamed PU106A, the 1.6-liter engine is actually no longer called an engine by its engineers, but a... Hybrid Power Unit, and was developed Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) in Brixworth, UK.

Fired up for the first time in the yet-unlaunched Mercedes-AMG F1 W05 single-seater, the all-new powerplan doesn't seem to sound all that bad to us now, but we'll reserve further judgedment until we literally hear more from it.

The short video bellow was recorded during a filming day at Silverstone with a full specification F1 car, with the single seater being driven by Nico Rosberg.
