The Chinese car market is still evolving at a rapid pace, adopting the latest technology and design, sometimes by cloning and sometimes the legal way. The Europeans still have a thing or two to show to their Asian counterparts, so the brand new Golf hatchback is making its way to China.
The official market debut is scheduled for the Chengdu Auto Show in September but the very first locally assembled versions of the car are ready. This is the first Chinese-made Golf 7 that's been sighted, produced by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture with slight changes over the car sold in overseas. Changes include cheaper headlights and taillings.
It's not all bad news, however, as the unlike the outgoing Golf 7, the newer hatch will have a 1.2 TSI base engine instead of a dated 1.6 FSI.
