When Dean Caccavo said that any car bought by a member of his family shouldn’t be more than $10,000 he obviously didn’t know what he put in motion. More than 20 years later, his entire family is driving (coincidence or not) older BMW E28 5 Series models that are, simply put, sublime.
The guys from Petrolicious somehow found out about the Caccavo family and quickly jumped at the chance to film a clip about them. Dean, DonnaRae and Austin are just a normal family that just happen to be E28 fans as well.

The whole thing started over two decades ago when Dean was on the lookout for a new car. He chose an E28 M5 back then that he picked up for just $9,500. Today, with over 200,000 miles on the clock, the car is still running and has two other companions by its side.

His wife drives a 1987 535is that was also picked up within the price range. Later on, his son also picked up the bug and he started loving BMWs. With two such great cars around him, it was downright impossible not to follow into their footsteps.

However, there was a twist here. He loved his mom’s car and wanted to own it for himself. His parents agreed but they told him that he had to get a job and earn the money needed to purchase it. Austin proved to be a handy guy and managed to raise the money to get the car and make it his own.

Of course, DonnaRae couldn’t just sit around without a car and her husband and her son quickly started looking for yet another car. Care to guess what they went for? Yes, another E28, this time a 528e.

For those of you that don’t know, the 528e was sold in the US between 1982 and 1988. The ‘e’ came from ‘efficiency’ as the 2.7-liter under the bonnet was marketed as being ‘highly efficient’. By the standards of that day and age it was and the 121 HP and 171 lb-ft (232 Nm) plant used special cams that improved low rpm torque.

Now, the Caccavos are probably one of the coolest families in the US and we can’t help but drool over how good their rides look. Which one would you pick?
