Scandinavian electric vehicle manufacturer Think decided to take yet another approach as part of its efforts to make the City electric vehicle more visible to the general public. Together with its distribution partner in Spain, Going Green, Think will launch a car sharing program using City vehicles in the Basque Country.
For now, Think will provide its distributor with only 15 EVs, all to be deployed in Ataun as part of the Sarecar program. The city of Ataun will support the program by installing charging stations supplied by Iberdrola and powered 100 percent by renewable energy sources.
“Spain is a growing market for electric vehicles, and thanks to our in-country partner, Going Green, we have been able to establish a footprint here in the last year,” said Richard Canny, the company's CEO.
“Now that we have introduced air-conditioning to the THINK City as well, we expect this footprint to grow in the coming months, with increasing sales in the key cities of Madrid and Barcelona and now, thanks to this excellent, totally carbon free car-share project from Sarecar, we are making in-roads into the Basque Country as well.”
The project is supported by a group of companies and organizations which include Iberdrola (utility company), Kutxa, (Basque Country savings group), Diputacion Guipuzkoa (regional government office) and Ayuntamiento de Ataun (city council).
“We are proud and impressed with the level of commitment to this new scheme and with the calibre of the partners getting involved on such a large scale,” Canny added.
