The Youngest Touran

Everybody knows the Volkswagen Touran, because it has been around since 2003. Now, a new version of this compact MPV has been launched, called CrossTouran. Cross is a regular brand for Volkswagen as they have already released Cross versions, the CrossPolo in 2006, the CrossGolf in 2007 and now the CrossTouran.

In what way is the CrossTouran different from the regular Touran? First of all, its chassis has been elevated by 12 millimeters, the bumpers have been modified and the alloy wheels have been redesigned. Also, the CrossTouran has an increased track, with 215 mm tires in the front and 235 mm ones in the rear.

The new model will have a “soccer-mom” feature implemented, namely the Park Assist, which includes the Park Pilot distance warning system and the Hill Hold Control system, meant for helping those who have trouble when climbing up a hill.

Most people driving the CrossTouran shouldn't have any trouble in “conquering” any hill, because the car comes equipped with some pretty powerful engines, both diesel and petrol. There are two petrol engines available, one that develops 102 horsepower and the other, a little bit more powerful, in the ballpark of 170 horsepower. The latter is a TSI engine, and the 170 horsepower help it reach a top speed of 206 km/h, while needing only 7.8 liters to run for 100 km. As for the diesel engines, notable are the 105 horsepower TDI and the 170 horsepower TDI, which have a consumption between 6.2 and 7.0 liters for each 100 km ran. All these engines can be coupled with the DSG dual clutch transmission.

Note that these engines and features are applicable to the CrossTouran released in Germany, and as always some changes may appear when released in other areas, due to each country's regulations.
