INEOS shows a lot of courage. The automaker sends its Quartermaster straight to the land of pickup trucks, the United States. Its truck starts at almost $87,000 before taxes. The model will be subject to a 25 percent US tariff, the so-called Chicken Tax.
The British carmaker has just launched its go-anywhere pickup truck in the United States. Customers will be able to choose one of the three trims available on the American market.

Having the exact same underpinnings as the Grenadier SUV, which kicks off at $71,500, the pickup truck starts at $86,900. That is how much future owners have to pay for the base version.

The gap between the prices of the two comes from the extra length and versatility. The truck comes with an extra 12 inches (305 millimeters) in terms of wheelbase.

Upper in the range, there is the Trailmaster Edition, named after the Belstaff Trialmaster Jacket, which made its debut in 1948. This one starts at $94,900.

It comes with a raised air intake, a loading bay liner, and cargo bay utility rails. It also sports a compass with an altimeter and rides on 17-inch steel wheels with BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires.

The Fieldmaster Edition sits at the top of the lineup, with an MSRP of $94,900. The list of extra equipment includes the Safari Windows on the roof, and the seats are wrapped in leather, with the ones at the front being heated. This variant rides on 18-inch alloy wheels.

Both of the upper trims are equipped with front and rear differential locks. A Smooth Pack with a rear-view camera, front park assist, heated side mirrors, heated windshield washer jets, and auxiliary charge points explain the higher pricing.

The Trialmaster and Fieldmaster benefit from the presence of several assistance systems, such as the intelligent speed assist, lane departure warning, and driver drowsiness detection.

All three of them are powered by a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 282 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque to all four corners. The engine is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with manual override. INEOS also sells a diesel version, but that is not going to make it to America.

The automaker will build the Grenadier Quartermaster pickup truck alongside the Grenadier SUV on the production line of the Hambach plant, a former Mercedes-Benz facility, where the Germans used to build the smart. Deliveries will start by the end of the year, but customers can already order an INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster.

Prices do not include the destination fees. They are so high, though, because the INEOS models, built outside the US, are subject to the Chicken Tax, which brings a 25 percent tariff on light trucks imported to the US. It sounds like it is going to be a bumpy ride for the INEOS pickup truck, which does not really have an actual competitor in the segment of luxury off-road trucks.
