The Dion Device is a brake lever safety system which prevents the front lever from accidentally being engaged when in direct contact with a bike you're passing.
This system was created by designer Stephane Dion, close friend of Canadian Superbike former Champion Michel Mercier. Michel's son Max, who was a racer himself, got killed in 2005 after a most terrible accident caused by a sudden, unexpected violent front brake sending him tumbling ahead and causing fatal injuries.

Basically, as Max Mercier slightly touched a bike we was about to pass, the front brake lever was triggered and resulted in a violent brake, smoke coming from the front tire and all.

The Dion Device is a guard lever easy to install on pretty much any bike with little or no modifications at all. This spring-loaded arm is designed to prevent engaging the brake lever by other contacts, save for the rider's right hand.

The clearance can be adjusted with a special bolt and the whole guard swings to the front in an emergency case, so the pilot's hand does not get caught between it and the brake lever. The Dion Device comes with an aerodynamic carbon fiber tip which also looks very sporty.

The Dion Device costs $299 (232€) and is available in black, blue, gold or red anodized aluminium.
