The sixth-generation Ford Mustang can now be ordered matte from the factory for the first time. Ford is offering the first-ever factory matte clear film for any paint color and any version. Bonus: not only does it give the Mustang a cool look, but it also protects the paint of the car.
There was a time when gloss was all the craze, packed up with as much chrome as possible. Now, chrome plating is facing a ban in the European Union, while car owners have shifted their preferences in terms of finishes, with many of them going for the matte finish whenever possible.
The film will produce a smooth, satin-like finish on the 2024 Mustang coupe, regardless of the version customers go for the EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse. Ford claims that it is a better portion than the vinyl wrap.
Produced by PPG, it can withstand harsh detergents used at hand or touches car washes, but also road salt, bird droppings, bug splatter, and asphalt residue, according to the carmaker. The film does not come cheap: it is priced at $5,995 on top of the price of the paintwork selected by the customer.
For instance, the Yellow Splash Metallic costs $995. Tesla offers the clear film for $6,000 the Cybertruck if customers go for the satin white, black, or grey, or $6,500 for the blue and rose gold. But there is a lot more car to cover there.

However, there are some limitations to the option. Those who go for the Dark Horse must know that if they check the box for the Matte Clear Film, they will not get the standard Hood Accent Stripe.
The Painted Racing Stripe is also unavailable in combination with the matte finish. It is also incompatible with the GT California Special package or the optional graphics packages that can normally be selected for the Mustang EcoBoost and GT.
Starting in the fourth quarter of 2024, those who order a Mustang Convertible will also be able to go for the matte finish.
Customers can start ordering the Mustang with the new film on February 27, which is tomorrow. First deliveries are scheduled to kick off in June 2024.
The Mustang is one of Ford's most customizable models. Future owners can choose the wheel design, interior colors, contrasting seatbelts, factory-painted brake calipers, and daring exterior colors.
However, the future owners of the Mustang Dark Horse will be able to spec their car with the graphic delete in case they don't want anyone else to notice they are driving the most track-capable 5.0-liter Mustang ever, capable of pumping out 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque.
The film will be covered by Ford's standard factory warranty applying to all Mustangs.
